Mikael, great collection of links! Fantastic blog! One suggested change for “APIs and Frameworks” however: FYI, in contrast to what you are saying, you don’t have to worry about NVIDIA dropping support for CUDA in favor of OpenCL. Both APIs are here to stay. CUDA for lower level access to hardware and non-portable features, and OpenCL for portability.

    Hi Timothy,

What I mean is that OpenCL will replace CUDA as the most important and most widely used GPU API.

I don’t doubt that NVIDIA will continue to support CUDA (likewise AMD/ATI will probably continue to support their Stream API, and Microsoft their DirectCompute API), but my guess is that most developers will choose OpenCL because of the portability and strong support from many different companies.

And in a Generative Art context, I definitely think the better choice would be OpenCL, even though some of the low level access might be lost.

    Best regards, Mikael.

Couple of good emerging general-purpose frameworks that you might have missed: (1) http://openendedgroup.com/field/ (2) http://lua-av.mat.ucsb.edu/about.html

    Cheers, and thanks!

Wow, this is great, thanks! A few things I hadn’t come across.

Thanks for Structure Synth, and cheers for linking to Nodal (I work with the guy who built it.)
